- "Destiny is not something, you can just walk away from. All roads lead to the same destination, you can't out run it."
- ―Nate to Angel
Nathan "Nate" Hank Summers was a warlock living in the late 20th century, the leader of Beyond Investigations, the twin brother of Buffy Summers, and had romantic relationships with Scott Hope, Larry Blaisdell and Andy Wells.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Psychic link: This link collected the memories of all past Slayers, experiences helped hone their skills and aid them in future battles. It allowed as well communication between coexisting Slayers through dreams, as Nate and Faith Lehane shared several dreams when Faith was in a coma, providing the first cryptic reference to Dawn's arrival and Buffy's death.
- Prophetic dreaming: This ability allowed Nate to foresee events such as various of his foes for his first year in Sunnydale, Angel losing his soul, Jenny Calendar's deception, the arrival of the Gentlemen, and the deaths of the Potentials Slayers by the Harbingers of Death.
- Magical powers: Nate possessed magical abilities of spellcasting, telekinesis, teleportation, interdimensional travel, time manipulation, time travel, levitation, flight, invisibility, energy projection, energy absorption, pyrokinesis, cryokinesis, photokinesis, force field generation, healing, transmogrification, exorcism, glamouring, shapeshifting, voice manipulation, astral projection, telepathy, mind manipulation, memory manipulation, conjuration, spiritual restoration, resurrection, binding, mystical power bestowal, summoning, cursing, hexing and immortality.
- Enochian protection runes: Nate had runic tattoos that granted him detection immunity to hide him from Higher Beings, Seers, Mystics and all known surveillance methods other than the naked eye. He also had super strength, super durability, telekinesis and object transmogrification.
- Advanced combat: Nate was a highly skilled combatant and generally fought unarmed, using circular attacks such as spinning kicks and back hands. In addition to his proficiency in many forms of martial arts, he mastered many varieties of weapons, favoring Japanese swords and sometimes axes.
- Demonology and occult aptitude: Nate had immense knowledge of both demonology and history.
- Immunity: Though not exactly a "power," Nate was immune to Billy Blim's power to induce misogyny because, as he explained, he gave up on hate long before, he never felt anger or hate towards anyone. As his soulless self, he was unaffected by the Judge's incinerating touch, as unlike his ensouled self, he had no humanity for the Judge to burn out.
- Leadership and tactical skills: Nate possessed strong leadership skills and had a flair for strategies and tactical planning. Nate also appeared to be a master of intimidation.
- Motorist skills: Nate could drive and had a good eye for cars, owning a Ford Mustang and a Dodge Van, along with an entire garage full of other cars as W&H Head of Special Projects Division.
- Multilingualism: Nate could speak several languages, including English, Egypt, ancient Greek, Latin, Italian, Chinese, Spanish, French, Belarusian, German, Japanese and Enochian.
- Other abilities: Nate was highly intelligence, possessed a photographic memory and computer skills. He was also a convincing improvisational actor, deceiving Richard Wilkins and the Circle of the Black Thorn as well as later the Twilight Group and his own allies into believing that he had either turned evil or gone corrupt.
Former Powers[]
- Enhanced vampire abilities: Nate had the standard powers and vulnerabilities of a vampire; he was immortal, regenerated damage, possessed super strength, super speed, super agility, super durability, and had heightened senses, able to track people by scent alone. He was also vulnerable to holy items and sunlight, could be killed by decapitation and a stake to the heart, needed to regularly ingest mammal blood to maintain his vitality, and could not enter the residence of a living human without being invited by a resident.
- Mark of Eyghon abilities: The Mark of Eyghon granted him a psychic link of sorts to the demon, which gave him visions when the demon was in close proximity.
- Gem of Amara abilities: The Gem of Amara granted Nate enhanced regenerative powers, allowing him to survive staking—which would traditionally kill a normal vampire—as the wound would close and they would not dust. However, its most astounding effect was granting daywalking. It also rendered him immune to crosses and fire, although the consequences if an opponent attempted to decapitate the vampire wearing the Gem were never specified. However, Doyle claimed that wearing the Gem would make the wearer unkillable if he or she was a vampire.
